Department of Sanskrit is one of the popular departments of Dr. B R Ambedkar College,Affiliated to the University of Kalyani. There are quite a number of students in the department across all semesters. There are sufficient numbers of books in the library relevant to all the semesters. At present there are several reference books, especially some rare collections, to enhance interest among all. Sanskrit is the mother of all languages and the department aims to develop interest among students to take Sanskrit as their core subject. In the future the department aims to organize several seminars and workshops in collaboration with other departments. The focus is to arouse interest among students in learning the language with passion.

The Sanskrit department offers Sanskrit as a Major subject along with Minor and SEC papers according to NEP 2020. The department has a mission to develop students for academic studies in Sanskrit and also to promote interest in the discipline of Sanskrit. Students of Sanskrit subject will be able to read, understand, write, and speak Sanskrit. They would acquire the knowledge of Sanskrit grammar, literature, the history of literature, Indian philosophy, the Veda, Vedang, Vedic literature, dharmasatra, arthasastra, nitisatra, and inscriptions. They will also acquire the initial knowledge of Indian civilization and culture through Sanskrit texts. They will be capable of studying Vedic and classical Sanskrit literature. They will be able to understand the ultimate goal of life. They would prepare for UPSC, WBES, and translation jobs. After passing their PG, they can apply for teaching jobs in schools, colleges, and universities. A hallmark of the department is the strong, supportive relationship between students and teachers. The faculty is approachable and dedicated to mentoring students, ensuring a nurturing and conducive learning environment.
